Study Abroad in China

After years of delicious Shaanxi noodles and ancient Silk Road treasures, our Alliance program center in Xi'an is on hiatus... but that doesn't mean you can't still have a truly amazing Alliance China experience!

The Alliance program centers in Shanghai and Beijing are accepting applications for all semester and summer opportunities, including intensive language study and hands-on internships. Check out your options in Shanghai and Beijing here.

Here's what Alliance students have shared about their rewarding experiences in China:

  • “I love China. I'm not sure when that happened. For the first month, I thought that I would never fit in. Thought that there was just so much Chinese to learn that I would never make progress. Thought that I wouldn't meet people and see the real China. But at some point, I got through enough of the language barrier to function. To make friends. To learn how to walk through crowds and cross streets. I've built routines and made friends and found a place here.” - Kaedi L. from University of Tulsa
  • “Sure, Beijing is not Paris, nor is it Barcelona, but Beijing is Beijing. The capital of one of the most powerful and most intriguing countries in the world, Beijing is a living and breathing historical site that is continuously transforming and molding itself to modernity.” - Audrey S. from The George Washington University
  • "Having studied in China, I can't look at that Shanghai skyline and not see a symbol for China's growth and transformation into a first-world superpower. I can't help but feel that I'm a part of the future here, than I'm part of something very special. To be able to talk intelligently about China from a social, political, or economic standpoint after just a semester of study feels to me like a real accomplishment." - Michael G. from Cornell University
