Monitoring Beijing Air Pollution

Beijing has been experiencing dense smog on and off in January 2013 due to recent weather conditions which prevent pollutants from dispersing. Air pollution in China caused by industrial and transportation emissions, augmented by a significantly increased number of vehicles, is an ongoing and onerous challenge, particularly in the densely populated capital city.

Each term, Alliance students on our Shanghai programs go head-to-head in a Chinese speech contest.  This friendly competition is a wonderful opportunity for Alliance students to practice their Chinese language and public speaking skills outside of the rigorous daily course schedule.  Please join us in congratulating the fall 2012 winners at their various levels!

Spring 2013 China Deadline Extension (SECUSS-L)

Spring 2013 Pune Deadline Extension (SECUSS-L)

Dear Colleagues:

The Alliance for Global Education is pleased to share that, because of expanded capacity, we are able to extend the deadline for our Spring 2013 program in Pune, India.  "Contemporary India:  Development, Environment, Public Health" allows students to delve into complex development issues through a community-based directed research project, internship, or documentary film.  An optional concentration in economics is also available.

Anti-Japan Demonstrations in China

All Alliance students have been confirmed safe amid heightened emotions and anti-Japan demonstrations across China.  Students are being urged to use caution and avoid demonstration areas in their program location or when traveling.  We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share additional information as necessary.

All Alliance Students Safe After Yunnan Earthquake

All Alliance students have been confirmed safe and accounted for following an earthquake in Yunnan Province, China.  No Alliance students were traveling in that area at the time.
