It has more universities and research institutes than any other city in China, making it also the intellectual hub of the country. Beijing's 3000 years of history is reflected in its art, architecture, music, and traditions. Among its innumerable attractions are the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, and the nearby Great Wall. While the city is replete with historical treasures, modern Beijing boasts lively concert halls, night clubs, ritzy and down-home restaurants, museums, and theater.
