Critical Language Scholarships (CLS) Program

The U.S. Department of State's Critical Languages Scholarships (CLS) program is part of an effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages. The Alliance for Global Education is pleased to announce that we have has been chosen to administer two of the sites in China. Students who are awarded the full scholarship will study intensive Chinese in Summer 2010 in Beijing (Beijing Language and Culture University) or Shanghai (Fudan University).  Classes will be offered at the intermediate or advanced level.  During the 8-week program, students will enroll in 20 hours per week of Chinese language, live with host families, have a peer language tutor, and participate in organized activities and excursions. All program fees, round-trip air travel, meals, activities and excursions will be covered by the scholarship.

Eighty full scholarships are available for China, and the Alliance will host two-thirds of the scholars. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship deadline for summer 2010 was December 18, 2009. Additional information about the CLS program is available online at http://www.clscholarship.org
